3.0L V6 Twin-Turbo Powertrain

The 2018 Levante S Q4 uses Maserati’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine. The S Q4 specification is rated at approximately 430 hp (316 kW) and 580 Nm of torque, making a high-torque automatic transmission essential for the vehicle’s performance and Q4 all-wheel-drive system.

The gearbox is designed to work with the vehicle’s electronically controlled drivetrain and Maserati transmission-management system.

ZF 8HP-70X 8-Speed Automatic

The 8HP-70X belongs to ZF’s 8HP family of torque-converter automatic transmissions.

Key features include:

• 8 forward gears
• Torque-converter automatic operation
• Electronic transmission control
• Hydraulic/mechatronic control
• Adaptive shift management
• Manual/sequential shifting capability
• High-torque capacity
• Integration with all-wheel-drive applications

The exact hardware and calibration can vary between vehicle manufacturers and model applications.

Maserati Part Number 670005568

Maserati Reference: 670005568

The part number should be compared directly with the identification label on the original gearbox.

When purchasing a replacement transmission, also verify:

• ZF transmission identification
• Transmission serial number
• Maserati part number
• Engine code
• Vehicle VIN
• Q4 drivetrain specification
• Donor vehicle details

This helps prevent ordering a physically similar but electronically or mechanically incompatible gearbox.

Maserati Levante M161 Fitment

The gearbox is intended for the Maserati Levante M161 S Q4 3.0L V6 application.

Before ordering, confirm:

Vehicle: Maserati Levante
Platform: M161
Trim: S Q4
Year: 2018
Engine: 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo Petrol
Transmission: 8HP-70X
Part Number: 670005568
Drivetrain: Q4 AWD

Because the Levante was offered with several engine and transmission configurations, VIN verification is strongly recommended.

Complete Gearbox Assembly

Depending on the exact unit being sold, the complete gearbox may include:

• Transmission housing
• Internal gear assemblies
• Torque converter
• Mechatronic/valve body
• Transmission control electronics
• Sensors
• Wiring connectors
• Oil pan
• Mounting components

Exact contents should be confirmed before purchase.

Some used transmissions are supplied as complete assemblies, while others may require the transfer of the original torque converter, mechatronic unit or external components.

Q4 All-Wheel-Drive Integration

The Levante S Q4 uses Maserati’s Q4 intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

The transmission and associated drivetrain components must therefore be correctly matched to the Q4 configuration.

Before installation, verify:

• Transfer-case compatibility
• Front/rear drivetrain configuration
• Differential specification
• Transmission control software
• Electronic communication
• Q4 calibration

A gearbox from a different Levante specification should not automatically be assumed to be interchangeable.

Used Gearbox Inspection

For a used 670005568 8HP-70X gearbox, buyers should request:

• Actual mileage
• Donor vehicle VIN
• Transmission serial number
• Maserati part-number label
• ZF identification label
• Diagnostic/test report
• Donor vehicle information
• Fluid-condition information
• Warranty details
• Photos of the actual gearbox

Inspect the unit for:

• Transmission-fluid leaks
• Cracked casing
• Damaged mounting points
• Broken electrical connectors
• Corrosion
• Previous repairs
• Impact damage
• Mechatronic damage
• Excessive wear

Transmission Fluid & Servicing

Before installation, the gearbox should be inspected and serviced according to the correct specification for the exact 8HP-70X variant.

The correct fluid, filling temperature, fluid level and service procedure should be confirmed for the specific transmission.

Do not use generic 8HP service information without verifying the exact transmission specification.

Electronic Programming

The transmission is electronically integrated with the Maserati vehicle.

After installing a replacement unit, it may require:

• Transmission control configuration
• ECU communication checks
• Adaptation reset
• Shift-learning procedures
• Diagnostic fault-code clearing
• Software configuration
• Q4 system calibration
• Road-test adaptation

A Maserati-compatible diagnostic system may be required.

Installation

Professional installation is recommended.

A typical gearbox replacement may include:

1. Disconnecting the vehicle battery.
2. Removing the original transmission.
3. Comparing the original and replacement identification numbers.
4. Inspecting the torque converter and mounting surfaces.
5. Installing the replacement gearbox.
6. Connecting the Q4 drivetrain components.
7. Connecting electrical systems.
8. Filling the correct transmission fluid.
9. Programming/configuring the transmission.
10. Resetting adaptations.
11. Clearing diagnostic faults.
12. Road-testing the vehicle.
13. Checking for leaks and abnormal shifting.

Important Fitment Notice

670005568 and 8HP-70X should be verified against the vehicle’s original gearbox before purchase.

Even when the gearbox is listed for a 2018 Maserati Levante S Q4 M161, variations in hardware, electronics, calibration and drivetrain configuration can affect interchangeability.

For the most accurate fitment confirmation, provide the VIN and a photograph of the original gearbox identification label.
